'I still have strong support from UMNO'... but do you still have support from the Rakyat???

First Posted on 9th March 2008:

Good morning to a new Malaysia, everybody!

How have everyone been these few days? For me, I've been happy, restless and very very satisfied that Penang, among the 4 other states, has been overrun by the Opposition. Power to the people! And as a sidenote, The Star is very much readable already, now with news (and pictures!) of Datuk Seri Anwar, our new CM Guan Eng, Jeff, Karpal and many more Opposition leaders.

However, I feel that the TV media is still not willing to accept defeat. Till now I still see RTM, TV3 and Bernama TV insulting the intelligence of the voters. Their ' political analysts' have blamed the voters to be 'playing with fire', 'too many young voters who are hoodwinked by the internet media' and 'voters are voting with their emotions'. But let me get this straight: If you check again, you'll see that the more civilised areas (Penang, KL, Selangor, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu) have been taken over by the Opposition. Are they trying to say that the educated people in Malaysia are dumb? Well, they WERE, but not anymore.

The BN has suffered a huge defeat, not because they relinquished control in 5 states to the Opposition, but more because that the states affected are substantial income generators to the government. Namely Penang (Tourism, a bit of Port trading, FDI), Kedah (the rice bowl of the country, Tourism in Langkawi), KL and Selangor (the heart of Malaysia), Kelantan (where a new oil cache worth billions of ringgit has been discovered), and lastly but not the least, Perak (ermmm.... yeah, Perak). It's good that our Pak Lah and his S-I-L Khairy will have less leeway to continue and bamboozle our public funds.

But I still have some gripes on statements and remarks made by some BN leaders in the press. Firstly, on Ong Kah Chuan, the brother of Ong Kah Ting. After his win, he said that he was 'disappointed by the voters for easily being deceived by the Opposition with their sweet talks'. Please lah kachuak, one or two people being deceived I can understand lah... But we are talking about educated voters who voted consciously against the BN. I for one, am disappointed by the voters who voted for the kachuak to get into Parliament. Now we'll have some pest problems come Parliamentery meetings. He goes on to say the the petrol prices follows the world prices, blah blah blah. Again, please refer to any one of Datuk Seri Anwar's explanations in Youtube. Pathetic.

Another statement that I can't take is the statement made by our 'Prime Minister' himself. 'I still have strong support from UMNO'. Do you think that UMNO IS Malaysia? Please step down gracefully or we will have to dethrone you 4 years from now in another very very bad upset. The rakyat is not stupid (even though some are).

Join me as I analyse on the results of the GE12 tomorrow, if I'm free....

Best Regards,
