Just Consider Before Doing a Mistake

First Posted on 26th February 2008:

Before we go any further, yes, this is another topic about the election. Why, nearly 80% of all our national news in the papers are about the elections anyway, so let's just jump into the fray as well, don't we?

In any case, last night, when I was having a family dinner, the topic of election came up and I was promptly labeled a 'young rebel' by my parents.. Figures. All we have in the papers, INCLUDING the adverts, are about BN propaganda. Not that it's surprising, considering that The Star is government controlled and they are duty-bound to follow the wishes of their masters to the letter. The issue now? Constant inflation, plus those unresolved issues with us 'minority' non-malays with the temple destroying and stuff. But I've already covered the temples issue before, so let me go over the inflation issue this time.

You always hear and read and watch messages from BN that the petrol prices now are cheaper compared to other countries, the sugar is cheaper, flour is cheaper, blah blah blah, but what people tend to overlook are the purchasing power of each individual in a given country. IF we Malaysia want to consider ourselves as a more developed nation, we shouldn't be comparing prices with poverty-stricken countries like Indonesia. So if we factor in the prices in Australia and Singapore, for example, versus the prices we have right now, we should also factor in the income that an average individual in that country is getting. And since I'm not running for MP, I don't have to give you statistics of how much we earn vs how much we can spend on necessities, but you see where I'm going... If you don't, well, it's because WE ARE EARNING LESS THAN THEY ARE. There you go.

Oh, and another point as well. Looking at The Star these few days, have you noticed they adverts on how much the government are paying for schools, how many graduated from UTAR and KTAR, how much the BN are working while the Opposition are only talking? In the first place, IF the opposition comes into power, why wouldn't they do the same for us? They are also Malaysian citizens. All of the contesting candidates are also educated men and women, more able to understand the theory of economics compared to 10 years ago. They also wish for a more harmonious country so that we can stand along with the best countries in the world. Heck, they can also do what BN can, if given power... The only reason BN is able to boast so much on their achievements is that ALL OUR INCOME TAXES ARE BEING GIVEN TO THEM. The Opposition, while not in power, does not have the funds to build a college, a University, a mosque... and get some 'angpau' money from the contractors while they're at it. Filthy bastards. And a plus: a more competitive political environment will keep MP's on their toes lest they are thrown out of power. Case in point? Just look at "this MAY be my last term" Samy Vellu. Too long in power until he's not able to let go.

While I sound like I'm all with the Opposition, at least please consider your conscience and understanding of Malaysian politics before going into the voting booths. We are Malaysians. We are not 2nd-class people bowing down to Malays, and we should be given enough power to make a difference, not UMNO, not BN, not even the Opposition, for that matter. This year might be our best term for us to make a difference, with the HINDRAF rally and all. The Badawi administration is slack, and most of the MP's are getting more and more corrupted, since the ACA is just as efficient as a Proton car. Oh, and to quote so many of those UMNO lackeys, "TRY US FOR 5 YEARS". So, why not the Opposition for a change?

Actually, what I'm more realistically asking for is, just put more of the Opposition seats into the Parliament, deny BN majority, so that they can lend more credibility into the Parliamentery, to be more justified in what they're doing, not only giving most of the advantages to the elite few rather than the rakyat as a whole. Oh, and Lim Kit Siang's really lonely being the only outspoken Opposition MP in the Parliament, having to deal with nincompoops like Nazri and Samy.
